Let’s make our spaces maker spaces.

A Brief History

Growing up, I didn’t have a handy dad around, but my mom was super crafty and incredibly encouraging. Our neighbor to the right was an old school woodworker who did furniture restoration full time. To the left, was my best friend’s dad. He worked at Ford assembling trucks on the grave shift, and spent a lot of free time during the day tinkering in his garage. Both were great men and good influences.

During high school, I threw myself fully into DIY publishing and graphic design, with zines and flyers and whatnot, this just as the web started. Then I went pro at that and built a career at the intersection of digital design and advertising. 20 years later, I co-own an agency and we have clients and employees and it’s great. I got married to an amazing woman, and we bought a house. That house has a basement.

I really, really like that basement. Slowly but surely, we’ve been hacking it into the maker space of our dreams. It’s fun, and comes in quite handy with the creative lifestyle we lead. We make art. We make signs. We volunteer and go to festivals and make things for our friends. Sometimes we even sell those things (and turn around and throw that money right back at the basement, like some kind of wood and money consuming ouroboros).

Anyhow, this website, and it’s accompanying youtube channel are about the space- and the journey- as well as the stuff we make and how we make it. I hope you dig it and maybe find it informative and/or inspirational in making your own special space to make things!
